Dr Deepa Velusamy

Dr Deepa has a special interest in children, adolescent health and other aspects of General Practice such as management of mental health conditions, management of chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, kidney impairment, and asthma.
She also has a particular interest in skin and completed a Certificate in Skin Cancer Medicine and a Certificate of Dermoscopy with Skin Cancer College Australasia. She can perform procedures like biopsy, simple skin excision, incision and drainage of abscess and toenail removal procedures.
She graduated from India in 2007 and worked in challenging primary care facilities in rural and remote parts of India before moving to Australia in 2010. Dr Deepa gained further work experience in Australia in a wide range of settings and underwent specialist training in General Practice under the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners pathway in Australia.
She completed her Australian Medical Council examination and then successfully completed her fellowship examination by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. As a Vocationally trained and FRACGP doctor, she is committed to keeping her skills up to date by undertaking advanced courses, training, and workshops.
She worked in Sarina, Regional Mackay area for 3 years in General Practice before moving to Brisbane. During this period, she developed special interests in Women’s sexual and reproductive health and offers a range of family planning options like contraception, Depo injections, Implanon, and IUD insertions (Mirena).
